Worklaw Discussion Forum

Discussion Topic:
The article in Worklaw's August 2019 subscriber newsletter provides an update on medical certificates from traditional healers.
We would welcome subscriber comments & discussion on:.....
• the extent to which subscribers have been receiving certificates from traditional healers
• whether these have come from registered healers
• and if so, what institutions they are registered with
• and whether subscribers are recognising these certificates.

The only healer certificates that have been submitted to us did not have registration numbers on them, and we took the view that they did not qualify the employee for sick pay.

We haven't received any - presumably that's because employees presume they wont be accepted?

Traditional healers certificate is not recognized by employers in Namibia
Therefore, from my experience working for some big companies in Namibia I have never experienced any sick note received from Traditional healers.
I have also inquired from other HR practitioners in Namibia, but confirmed that they did not had such experience either.
