About Worklaw

Worklaw was born in 2003 after Bruce Robertson and Alan Rycroft, Worklaw’s founders, identified a need for an online labour law advice and information service. Bruce and Alan were both integrally involved at the time in dispute resolution, arbitrating and mediating labour disputes, and they identified that both employers and unions could have avoided many of the mistakes they were making, had they had quick access to an effective labour law resource and appropriate advice.

From humble beginnings, Worklaw has grown to become a leading labour law information and advice service in South Africa. Worklaw empowers organizations, giving them what they need to manage labour relations effectively. But more than that, Worklaw has through its writing, online resource material and the advice it gives subscribers, attempted to promote principles of fairness to both employers and employees. Worklaw has attempted to play its part in developing an effective dispute resolution system in South Africa, and has maintained its core values since inception.

Worklaw was further strengthened in early 2025 when Tanya Venter joined the Worklaw team. Tanya is an Advocate of the High Court and CEO of Tokiso Dispute Settlement (Pty) Ltd. She has been an acting judge in the Labour Court, and brings a wealth of experience and expertise in dispute resolution and the broader labour law field.

Many of South Africa’s top companies and government departments have been using Worklaw’s services for over 20 years – we have a proven track record of providing a highly effective service.
