About Worklaw

Worklaw was established in 2003 by Bruce Robertson and Alan Rycroft, who recognised the need for an accessible online labour law advice and information service. At the time, both founders were deeply involved in dispute resolution — arbitrating and mediating labour disputes — and saw firsthand how employers and unions could have avoided costly mistakes if they had quick access to reliable labour law resources and sound guidance.

From these beginnings, Worklaw has grown into one of South Africa’s leading labour law information and advisory services. Our mission is to empower organisations with the tools they need to manage labour relations effectively. Beyond providing resources, Worklaw remains committed to, when giving advice on its Helpline, supporting fairness for both employers and employees, while contributing to the development of an effective dispute resolution system in South Africa. Our core values, established at inception, continue to guide everything we do.

In 2025, Worklaw welcomed Tanya Venter to the team. Tanya, an Advocate of the High Court and CEO of Tokiso Dispute Settlement (Pty) Ltd, has also served as an acting judge in the Labour Court. She brings extensive expertise in dispute resolution and labour law, further strengthening Worklaw’s leadership and service offering.
